Chief Charles W. Shalenberger

Chief Charles W. Shalenberger started in 1984 with the Plain Township Fire and Rescue Department as a Volunteer Fire Fighter. In 1992 he was hired as a full time Firefighter/Paramedic. In 2001, he was promoted to Shift Commander Captain, and became Deputy Chief of the department in 2012. He has lived in Plain Township since early childhood and is a graduate of GlenOak High School and Akron University. Charles and his wife Stephanie have two children..

He is a state certified Fire Inspector and EMS/ Fire Instructor, credentialed as a Fire Chief by the Ohio Fire Chiefs Association and also teaches at Stark State Fire School. Chief Shalenberger is an American Heart Association CPR Instructor and teaches CPR classes for residents, township employees and local businesses. He has attended many national and state fire courses. He also serves on committees with Plain Local schools and other county Agencies. Chief Shalenberger is responsible for managing the department which provides fire, EMS/rescue services, fire prevention and safety educational programs to the residents and visitors of Plain Township.

Deputy Chief William Reed Jr.

Deputy Chief Reed started in 1984 with the Plain Township Fire and Rescue Department as a Volunteer Fire Fighter. In 1989 he was hired as a full time Dispatcher and later that same year promoted to full-time Firefighter/Paramedic. In 2001, he was promoted to Shift Commander Captain, and became Deputy Chief of the department on January 1, 2017. He has lived in Plain Township since early childhood and is a graduate of Glen Oak High School, Stark State College, and Malone University.

Bill is a state certified Fire Instructor and EMS Instructor that teaches at Stark State College. He also is an American Heart Association CPR Instructor that teaches CPR classes for residents, township employees, and local businesses. Bill is a regular attendee of many national and state fire courses. He is a committee member for Aluminum Cans for Burned Children, Great Pumpkin Race for Special Olympics, and Boy Scout Troop 127. Deputy Chief Reed is responsible for assisting in managing a department which provides Fire & EMS Rescue services, as well as, Fire Safety educational programs to the residents and visitors of Plain Township.

The Plain Township Fire Department staffs four Stations with full and part-time firefighter/paramedics and firefighter/EMTs. The Fire Department typically staffs the stations with between 13-15 personnel 24/7 to provide a timely response to residents and visitors of Plain Township.
